Epho has engineered and installed the first solar system on an ALDI store in Australia
(Sydney, Sept. 2015) Epho Pty Ltd, a leading developer of turn-key commercial solar power systems and an engineering consulting firm for businesses across Australia, has secured the contract to develop the first solar system on an ALDI store in Tweed Heads, as part of an exciting new trial.
The solar system will be 92.3 kW using Winaico modules and Enphase Microinverters. ALDI is a market leader in utilising solar power on its stores across Europe and North America, and is now exploring the possibility of using the sun to help power our operations in Australia.
Dr Oliver Hartley, Managing Director of Epho explains, “ALDI has a very strong commitment to sustainability and solar power can provide renewable energy to off-set a significant part of the electricity needed by a supermarket. Epho was selected because we have the competence and responsiveness required by large companies like ALDI”.
Epho is providing the full turn-key service from the initial site inspection through to operation and maintenance.
“These types of projects allow Epho to leverage the company’s strengths across project management, stakeholder management, engineering, operations, and work health and safety. The actual installation will need to happen in an almost ‘ghost-like’ manner, with minimal disturbance to the normal operation of the ALDI store,” reveals Luke Butterworth, Epho’s operations manager. “We are excited about the opportunity to help ALDI achieve its sustainability targets. This is another example of how ALDI demonstrates its commitment to renewable energy.”
ALDI aims to protect and promote the environment in all aspect of its business, with systems in place to monitor energy and water consumption, carbon emissions and general waste output wherever possible.
“Energy management and sustainability is part of what we do – from store design, construction and operation, to supplier arrangements, transportation and warehouses,” said an ALDI Australia spokesperson.
“We will closely monitor this new trial at ALDI Tweed Heads in a bid to continue to identify and implement cost effective opportunities and do our part for the future of our environment.”
